First time for everything

So this is my new Blog and my first post.  I don’t know what I expect from this process but I hope the readers, should I get any! will be entertained and engaging.  Today is the 6th of April 2014 it is 11.50 am GMT and I am as usual sitting in my bed, hence the title of my blog.

So who am I?  I am a 52 year old woman with disabilities who likes to talk about everything.  I am interested in people, the environment, politics, art, literature, cinema and disability.  I have a very dark sense of humour gained from my Irish parents and Grandparents.  I can be very sarcastic and I do not suffer the uninformed gladly.

I like Cats and Dogs have never been nor ever will be married,  I do not like institutions and marriage has to be the biggest of them all.  I have no children again a decision made by me and not a quirk of my biology.

I love all art and I collect it in many forms.  My favourite artist is Irish artist Louis Le Broquy ever since I lived in Dublin for 4 years between the ages of 19 and 23 at the beginning of the 1980’s and used to got to the Hugh Lane Gallery and sit for hours contemplating his work which I have a physical reaction to somewhat like falling in love every time I see it. You can find him here www.anne-maddon.com/LeBPages/lebroquy.html.

I love his portraits of Yeats, Joyce, Beckett and Bacon, Picasso who was his contemporary. Here are some examples of his work

As you can see he paints the personality into the portraits and draws it out through the paint to the front of the canvas until you can feel the human being it represents.  I was lucky enough to go to see an exhibition of new work in London at Gimple Fils but I would only get to own one if I won the lottery or got it as a prize or present.

I am also a fan of a British artist Norman Ackroyd RA he is a print maker and hand makes his plates which he prints onto handmade Japanese paper.  He is a Lecturer in Print Making at the Royal Academy and is also a sculptor.  I am lucky enough to own 5 works of his which I purchased when I was working.  Here is some of his work

I love this one it has a feeling to it all of it's own you can almost feel the mist rising around you. I have this print

This actually transports me back to my grandmothers bedroom and the way the light would come into the room and trail across the floor in the afternoon as I read on of my aunts Mills and Boon she had gifted to my grandmother who said "here girl take them old yokes I have no eyes to read anything but the paper anymore". The house was in Kilkenny and this is Galway but it is the ver essence of light in the late afternoon in Eire

Blasket Co Kerry for this one and again the light in the clouds on the hills and then playing on the Atlantic sea bellow is mesmorising to me much more so than if it was in water colour

I am having my home decorated in the coming months and I very excited to put my collection on the walls and shelves. It will be a first time for me although I have lived her 14 years now I have never managed to get things the way I want until now.  This is because of a number of long term health conditions I have that came along one after the other and knocked me on my back literally.  But more of that another time today is for hope and new things.

Finally I will say I am an only child and orphan now as my parents are both gone but not a lonely one I come from a very large extended Irish family and they are and will be always around if I need them I know this and I do not feel I have to see them all the time to maintain this link.  That is love in a nutshell to me.

So here are two more picture taken  of my family in the 1970’s at my cousin Mary’s wedding and you can see how large my family is as this is only my mothers side.  I am in the pictures but you will not find me even if you know me.  If you can find me and you are the first person to do so I will write you a poem on a subject of your choosing.  Oh did I say I was a writer?

Picture is so large it is sideways on my file download I hope it is the correct way up on my blog
